The Mighty Oaks Learning Centre offers unique educational and therapeutic group programs for children aged 3 to 6 years with developmental challenges. The concept was developed by our Director Suvi Pitkola in 2010.
We offer preschool programs and individual sessions for children. All our programs are based on the DIR/ Floortime approach and the Learning Tree Model developed by Dr Stanley Greenspan. To our knowledge, we are the first and only early intervention group program in Singapore – and possibly Asia – that uses the Floortime model and focuses on social communication and interaction. We aim to nurture fragile acorns so that they can grow into resilient oak trees.
We at Mighty Oaks provide high quality, individualized academic and therapeutic services in small groups and utilize the latest scientific research and the most effective tools available in our work.
Our classroom programs focus on each child’s individual learning profile and place a strong emphasis on the child’s social communication including the ability to interact with other children. The Mighty Oaks programs also address any attentional, sensory or motor based challenges the child may have.
Speech and occupational therapists from Kaleidoscope Therapy Centre come over weekly to provide services to our children.
Each child gets an own Individualized Educational Program (IEP) that includes social, emotional, self-regulatory, self-help and academic goals. The academic goals are in line with the MOE (Ministry of Education) curriculum, Singapore. This is important because the goal for our students is to be able to access mainstream curriculum upon leaving Mighty Oaks. Although Floortime is at the core of everything we do, we also use other approaches such as sensory integration and visual strategies from TEACCH to help the children and structure the learning. Behavioral strategies are used as and when needed.
